This morning, Smart Chicago Executive Director Dan O’Neil appeared on Outside the Loop radio to talk about Smart Chicago’s partnership with Cook County to expand open data.

Today the Cook County Board approved a contract that codifies a partnership between the Smart Chicago Collaborative and the County of Cook. Here’s a snip from the County’s announcement of the partnership:
“Entering into this partnership with Smart Chicago will help the County find ways to improve the lives of residents through technology,” Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle said. “It is part of my administration’s commitment to provide accessible and up-to-date information.”

President Preckwinkle has just launched a New Media Council in order to help the County better interact with citizens through digital channels. The council is co-chaired by Smart Chicago Executive Director Dan O’Neil.
One of the very first initiatives to come from the new council is a twitter chat that was held today.
